Information » World, Europe, UK & Wales » Religion
Religion is defined as the belief in and worship of a god or gods, or a system of belief and worship. There are many different types of religion across the world with the largest religions including Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism and Sikhism.
Britain is a multi-faith society, which means that everyone has the right to religious freedom and can practice any religion they choose. British society is known as being extremely tolerant of people’s beliefs and faiths and most of the world’s religions are practised here.
Across Britain you can find every type of Christian faith, Hindu, Jewish, Muslim and Sikh communities, and also smaller communities of Baha'Í, Buddhists, Jains, and Zoroastrians, as well as followers of new religious movements.
This section covers all of the main world religions, where these religions are based and their beliefs and customs.
It’s important to understand and respect different belief systems, especially if you are travelling to foreign countries to those you have experienced before.
